Possible questions to ask a student during an interview, i will choose when i come to interview i am happy with them all.

These are possible questions i can ask a tutor, i could use many of the questions above and will pick when it comes to the interview.

Unit 111 Project Proposal

I propose to make a promotional video for art and design in stephenso college for a section of DGTV. It will contain clips of the art room, clips of the college clips of students working and interviews with tutors and students alike. The target audience will be school students looking for further education in art and design and college students looking for a new course to further their career or to start a career in the art and design curricular, parents may also look at this video to see if their child would benefit from enrolling here and to see what they will be getting upto. The age range would be from age 16+ as a GCSE qualification is needed and adults can join, parents may also be interested to see what we're about. I will produce the video for DVD and on a web player.

Unit 111 Video Production

Today Mr Liddicott kindly produced a brief for our class.

I have started my brief today and have researched promotional advertising videos. I have found one for stephenson college here -

I like the style of this promotional video and i think i could re-create this to a high standard but just in the art room. I like the idea of taking shots on the way to the art room from the college entrance to show how the college looks as it is modern and impressive. Shots in the artroom of people working and of peoples work. Interviews with teachers - "what is you role in the art department?", "what can this course offer?" and "Why pick this course?". Compile the film into clips of work, interviews, stills of the building and art room.

Video starts with the stephenson college logo scrolling across the screen and then it appears in full smaller in the centre and then dissapears slowly into a shot of the college entrance.

BBC 3 creates it's own ident.

http://www.tv-ark.org.uk - A website showing TV-Idents from decades ago through to the most modern ones, this is a brilliant website and i shall use it to gain inspiration for when i create my own tv idents and program.

BBC3 launch which means a launching of a brand new TV IDENT.

This ident which represents bbc3 only is a completely different layout from any other, it has been created in 3d modelling software and has created its own characters which are 'blobs' these characters interact which each other but not in english, they interactions are based on movement and expressions that are recognised by the audience. These characters are humorous and entertaining.

Deaf signing experiment

Here is my deaf signing version of a program. I had difficulties removing the blue screen from hadley as he was wearing white and i felt i could do better, I simply just recorded a movie clip with video camera and layered it to appear where i wanted it to on the final movie. Unfortunately the chroma key tool didn't work very well with hadley so i recorded a new video with a different actor, I changed the scenery by lowering the blue screen and putting a spotlight behind the blue screen i was able to remove the blue screen from around the actors body effectively. I used a garbage mat aswell to remove the majority of the blue screen as john didn't move around much and wasn't required to.

3D Studio

I modelled a 3d studio in carrara and recorded john from a distance so it appears that he is walking in a studio, i modelled a desk seperately and layered it on the studio so it appears a desk is built in to the 'appearing real' studio. I chroma keyed as usual to remove the blue background and this time i used garbage mat to enable myself to remove the lights and real studio as i recorded from a studio.

Virtual Studio

Here is my virtual studio test, I used Adobe Fireworks to create a studio in vector format. Using layers in Adobe premiere pro i mannaged to layer a background, desk, header and video footage.

I used the same technique as before with chroma key to remove the blue screen, Unfortunately the blue table i used refelcted blue onto the paper and the chroma key removed the reflection causing part of the paper to be transparent. Chroma key was unable to remove all of the blue around jimmy so it would have been more effective to have used a backlight to give sharper edges.

2nd December - Testing Blue screen

To create this video I filmed a fellow student being 'himself' in front of a blue screen and lighting.

I used a blue screen so that i can effectively remove the background and super impose a part of the video ontop of a background that wasn't there when i recorded the video. I used Adobe Premiere Pro for this as it is very effective for editing videos. To remove the blue background i used an effect built in on premiere pro called Chroma Key which can be found in 'Video effects' to use this effect i simply dragged the effect into the video layer. To edit the effect i simply went to 'effect controls' tab and eyedropped the colour i wanted to remove which is blue, I used a blue shade that was mid tonal so that it would pick higher and lower shades of that colour equally and not take colours from the videoed character. I also altered blur to try and keep edges on the characters body free from feathering.

Now the blue background has been removed a image or video can be imported onto a lower layer so where the blue screen is removed the foreground video appears to be on top of the video or image that wasn't there when i filmed the footage. I then rendered the video out in Windows Media Player format at 500kb to ensure a speedy upload that doesn't take up too much bandwith. I then uploaded the video to this blog. Ta da.

Analysis:

The student that i filmed was wearing innapropriate clothing for this shoot, because his clothes were a colour that is to close to blue and this made it hard for me to be able to remove the blue background without removing parts of the clothes. I couldn't remove alot of the blue on one shot because i would have removed the suspects clothing (not in a nudist way.... thankfully).

I chose these backgrounds as they match what the suspect is doing, he is special afterall.

In future i shall make sure whoever i am filming is wearing clothing is not close to the clour of the background (blue).

2nd December - video production

This morning we split into groups to decide about our roles in our class College TV station and to decide a name. First of all we Mind mapped in groups possible tv programs that we could produce, we collated the two groups' work and every individual student had to pick their desired program to create. Jimmy was very late so he picked last and didn't really know what was happening. After we decided on programs; We had another class discussion and came up with possible names for our college tv station, we had multiple names that we could use and in our class. As a class we narrowed it down to a few 'appropriate' names and then formed a survey to ask fellow students and teachers around the college in pairs. Smiley and myself compilled a survey and found that 'Dead good TV' and 'The big S' were the favourites. The entire class collated their results and we found that as a class the surveys resulted in 'Dead Good TV' being the most popular and also as a class we decided to shortern the name to 'DGTV' so it is more appropriate.
